Fishing Report Late July

The last report for July was issued with still a couple of weeks to go and at that time, fishing was slow to nearly stop due to the weather conditions. However, I am pleased to report that rain came on the final week and the Grilse decided to visit nearly every pool in the FAA. Even more satisfying was that they appeared to be in the mood for battle and many encounters took place with the predator being the winner. I would estimate that a few hundred fish entered the system with members and visitors alike sharing in the bounty. The fish hung around for a few days and began to leave us as quick as they came.

Fish were still around in the first two weeks of August and visitors seemed to be the most successful. Early morning and late evening were the best times and the lower stretches were usually where anglers congregated.

Night sea trout anglers have not been recording much action and the bay fishing has been non existent. Probably the worst season in many years, the Findhorn Angling Club are concerned on the ever growing sand within the bay which is blocking the river channel in low tide preventing any fish entering the river system until late into the incoming tide.

The hope is that the weather pattern will change soon and give fresh water in quantity to allow fish to run the river and once again supply us with plenty of late Grilse and Autumn salmon.
